Seedrioru is excited that there is such enthusiasm among the students and other Esto young people to attend the traditional Song festival at Seedrioru on Canada Day long weekend. The gates are open Friday for those wishing to camp overnight , the Main Event will be on June 30, 2018 which will include not only the Song Festival Concert, but also Beach Volleyball tournaments, Jaanituli/Bonfire and guest performances by not only our local talents but an excellent youth mixed choir from Estonia and the Estonian band ‘Terminator.’
Just as background to everyone, this Song Festival tradition started in 1956 and was held every 5 years. In 1972, combined with ESTO festivities, this event was attended by over 7000 and choirs came together from Toronto, St. Catherines, Hamilton, Kitchener, Buffalo, New York and many other Estonian communities. In 2003 the Toronto Estonian School participated for the first time and it was warmly received and provided the start of a Toronto Youth Choir that was a proud participant in many subsequent Song Festivals in Tallinn including the last one in 2014.
We are looking forward to the Toronto and Hamilton Estonian Schools singing together for the first time and they will be joined by new groups consisting of Joekaaru alumni Youth and another group representing Seedrioru alumni Youth. These are exciting new additions that Im sure everyone will enjoy!
We all understand that these kids do not practice together as a choir, but the chosen songs ( Arkamise Aeg, Eesti ,Mu Isamaa, and Vana Viis) are all very familiar if not memorized by all of them. They will be introduced in the progrom as “ Our Future”, because we feel that without the youth participation this beautiful Song Festival tradition will not continue in Seedrioru.
We cannot stress enough, the importance of the youth/children’s participation and urge everyone’s entire family and extended family to make their attendance and participation at this year’s Seedrioru Song Festival a priority. It won’t happen again for another 5 years, so perhaps other weekend plans can be switched to accommodate this important event in our Estonian Community.
REMEMBER ……THIS IS ALSO THE MAIN FUNDRAISER FOR SEEDRIORU CHILDREN’s SUMMER CAMP

Rahvariided /Folk Costumes for the performance only. Please make a serious effort to borrow a set for your child if they don’t own one. The “look” will be beautiful and memorable to all.
Kids do not have to wear the socks. Black or dark sandals/ bare feet are fine. Cotton skirts and shirts that resemble Folk costumes are also fine.
Please, NO bathing suits, jean shorts, printed floral or scripted T-shirts.
There will be a huge tent set up covering the raisers that the choir will be singing from..you can’t miss it.
The adult choir’s dress rehearsal will start at 11am. We estimate that the youth will practice just after lunch or around 1pm immediately following the adults. This will give the kids time to eat before they start and time to swim before the Rongkaik starts.
RONGKAIK/ PARADE OF CHOIRS
ALL choirs will have their own tent set up along the path that leads from the field to the Stage. These will be set up in order of how they march. The kids will be marching near the beginning so their gathering spot or tent will be set up fairly close to the main hall/bathrooms.
Please make sure everyone is dressed and ready to go at 3pm on Saturday.
Each choir will march behind their flag. Please bring Estonian flags too if you have them. It is always a nice tradition if they sing their favourite Estonian song while marching. ( To be decided)
Start time, right after the parade and when all of the choirs are on stage. The kids will sing near the beginning. We hope that they will stay for the entire performance so that they live through a beautiful cultural event and hopefully feel inspired to sing in Tallinn’s Song Festival sometime in the future.
The words of all the choir songs will be in the program with English translations.
There is plenty of food and drink options available at various price ranges from the rESTOran located in the main hall.
Please check in upon arrival to see if any of the times have changed.
